Your pet’s stay with us
Care and kindness throughout
After meeting the surgeon and discussing your pet’s procedure, we introduce your animal to our dedicated team of fully-qualified veterinary nurses and ward assistants.
Your pet’s needs always come first, and to begin with, each patient receives one-to-one care, so they soon feel as settled as possible. In advance of their procedure, your pet will receive gentle pre-medications, including pain relief under the direction of the skilled and experienced surgeon. The surgical and ward nursing teams ensure the patient has a smooth and calm transition to anaesthesia.
During the operation, your pet is monitored for things like blood pressure, blood oxygen and Co2 levels, and ECG, while pain management is closely controlled to enable a smooth recovery.
Once your pet recovers they are handed back to the ward nurses, who will monitor your pet’s condition and comfort them during what may be a confusing period. After most operations, your pet will soon be sitting up and taking a keen interest in everything else that’s going on. You’ll receive updates daily during your pet’s progress.
When it comes to pick-up time, you’ll be debriefed and receive all necessary aftercare instructions, which may include coming back to the centre for check-ups. Meanwhile, we’ll send full details of the procedure and aftercare to your vet.
After-hours care
For after-hours emergency cases, or if you have any follow-up concerns, our surgeons are available on a rota basis, 24 hours a day. Be sure to call the centre first on 01473 230999 because the duty vet changes daily and we want to ensure you have the correct mobile number.
